Job description

For one of our clients who is reputable for building offshore energy structures, we are looking for a full-time Cost Engineer to join their commercial team. This team is located at the Vlissingen office, which has a spectacular view of the fabrication yard where the offshore structures are built. 

The Role
We are looking for a Cost Engineer with a passion for project costs in order to oversee the feasibility, development, design, and execution of fabrication projects.

The role will have a particular focus on understanding project costs, developing cost estimate targets, and recommending cost-effective solutions. You will be part of the quotation process and will calculate costs of often large-scale projects based on drawings, client requirements, and commercial parts lists. The role is ideally suited to a person with innovative ideas on how to deliver projects at lower costs, and faster.

The Cost Engineer will report to the Commercial Manager and work closely with both the Operations and Engineering Teams to meet targets.

Responsibilities:

  • Study requirements and drawings
  • Prepare budgets
  • Determine cost prices
  • Request prices and specs from suppliers and subcontractors (working with Purchasing Dept.)
  • Prepare and support client-oriented quotations
  • Continuous improvement of calculation and analysis models to increase accuracy
  • Ensure accurate file transfers to the project management team

Job requirements

  • BSc technical education or comparable
  • Passionate about making cost estimates, cost monitoring, cost control and forecasting for large construction projects.
  • Relevant experience as a cost engineer, to take on responsibility and apply technical knowledge to determine the budget and cost of fabrication projects.
  • Ability to build project forecasts and track actual costs, contingency, risks, and exposure, both for internal and external expenditure against the cost controls structures.
  • Ability to read 2D and 3D CAD drawings
  • Team player
  • Self-driven, well organized, accurate, and timely
  • English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Willing to travel overseas occasionally
