De Ruyter Training & Consultancy (DRTC) offers a wide range of maritime (safety) training programs. Our products range from Sea Survival to Management training for maritime officers or Medical Care on board. Maritime encompasses not only shipping but also offshore wind, offshore oil & gas, port logistics, inland shipping – it covers the maritime sector in the broadest sense. Our target audience includes professionals working in these sectors and students at maritime academies.

We are looking to strengthen our team of instructors in Vlissingen (Flushing). Are you familiar with the Maritime sector? Is teaching your passion? Do you enjoy explaining the principles of survival crafts or shipboard firefighting to students and puting them into practice? Or are you an experienced Maritime officer who can teach & assess seafarers in the field of "Engine Room Management" and "Bridge Team Management"?

Depending on your background and experience, you can join DRTC. We are looking for colleagues who are willing to work full time, part-time or as freelancers. The starting point is

your experience in one of the core areas:

• Maritime: you are an experienced maritime officer for all types of vessels (nautical and/or technical), or you have gained relevant experience at sea in another role (Defense/Oil & Gas/Training sector, etc.).
• Firefighting: you have experience as a commander and/or instructor in the fire department.
• Medical: you have experience as a (offshore) medic, nurse or similar.

What does your work look like?

• You provide various maritime training courses. You are the point of contact for the group. You coach and guide your participants through sometimes challenging practical exercises and assess whether they meet the requirements of the training standard (STCW/GWO/Nogepa/Opito).
• Based on new developments in the market and changing regulations, you modify training programs and have them assessed by external accrediting organizations.
• You assist colleagues in their practical training sessions. Sometimes as a safety officer with indoor firefighting, other times on the open water for survival craft training or sea survival.
• Together with your colleagues, you take care of the maintenance of training equipment.
• For new tasks, you write your own safe work instruction.

Job requirements

Requirements to start as a Maritime Instructor:

• Being an instructor at our safety center can be physically demanding; we expect you to be fit and willing to stay that way. A medical examination before starting your career at DRTC is required.
• Experience in one of the core areas.
• You are not deterred by the need to teach classes in English.
• Occasionally working at our second location in Groningen or at the customer's site is not a problem for you.
