Offshore Operator / Mechanic

As an Operator Mechanic, you are responsible for both the process and maintenance. When necessary, you perform regular maintenance, but preventive care is essential as well to prevent malfunctions. In addition, as an Offshore Operator or Mechanic, you are involved in ordering parts if they are not available on the platforms. In short, you ensure that the production process runs according to plan and, above all, safely.

Meet our specialist

Floris - Offshore Mechanic/Operator

My name is Floris, and I am Operator Mechanic on a production platform in the North Sea. As Operator Mechanic, I’m responsible for the progress of oil and gas extraction at sea. I can describe my daily tasks in two parts. First, you ensure that the process runs as smoothly as possible and secondly, you are responsible for all mechanical maintenance on the platform. I started my AOT (General Operational Engineering) MBO-4 training at another company.

In my first 1.5 years, I followed the operator training throughout this other party. During this training, I worked on the central platform. On this platform, I received good help and time to complete this training.

I think that as an Operator Mechanic, you should have characteristics and skills such as:

  • Have technical experience, preferably experience in electrical engineering
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Communicative
  • You are eager to learn
  • Ambition to get the best out of yourself

Another part of my work consists of Operator tasks. In addition to the natural gas production process furthermore, I monitor alarms and immediately resolve these problems together with my colleagues. It is a job where no day is the same. Sometimes I will be transferred to smaller satellite platforms where I have a very independent function.

On these satellites, you are on your own, and you have a great responsibility. In doing so, I direct people and ensure that they can work in a safe working environment.

We are looking for you!

You are someone with a sense of responsibility and eager to learn. Are you a specialist in Rotating Equipment, or you have much knowledge of the process industry? Then we are looking for you. As an Operator Mechanic, you can continue to develop. At Oceanwide, for example, we offer various courses and training sessions that make you a full member of the Offshore team.

We expect you to have the following qualities and experience:

  • A completed MBO 4 in the mechanical direction.
  • Experience with diesel engines.
  • Affinity with mechanical work.
  • In possession of a VAPRO certificate or willing to obtain one.
  • Command of the Dutch and English language.
